How to write your legislators a message on a postcard
1. In the upper left corner on the front of the postcard, handwrite your name and address.
2. Address your postcard to your state senator or state representative. To find your state senator and state representative, you can go to the website www.legis.state.pa.us and add your zip code + 4 digit number.
3. On the back of the postcard, hand-write a small message to your elected official. Below are some suggestions:
Main message for each postcard is: Please support the portions of the 2007-2008 Governor’s budget that sustain medical assistance funding and increase funding to support home and community-based services for people with physical, mental, sensory, and developmental disabilities.
In the Pittsburgh area, we value the strength of our many neighborhoods. People with disabilities need an honest choice and an equal opportunity to live in the homes and neighborhoods of their choosing.
Right now, many people with disabilities and seniors do not have the supports and resources necessary to lead self-sufficient and independent lives. For the strength and economic vitality of our region, we must create and sustain the community capacity for every person to live in the homes and neighborhoods of their choosing.
When a person does not have an honest choice on where they want to live then they are not being treated equally as a citizen. Please give people with disabilities the resources and supports needed to live in the neighborhoods and communities of their choosing.
We need a re-balancing of the system so that more opportunities and a broader choice are provided. Regarding people with disabilities, the current system is heavily slanted toward institutionalized care. Each person deserves the honest choice and the necessary support and resources to be able to live in their home and community of their choosing.
Share a personal story that strengthens the need for sustaining medical assistance funding and increasing funding to support home and community-based services.
4. BE SURE TO SIGN YOUR NAME ON THE BACK OF THE POSTCARD!
